There are two main scoring models:

  • FICO Score (created in 1989 by Fair Isaac Company): used by 90% of top lenders.

  • VantageScore (created by the 3 bureaus in 2006): newer, often used by free credit apps.

Both range 300–850. Higher = better. Both weigh payment history, debt, and credit use, but slightly differently.
